More information on the topics:
Gender Equality
Despite the improvements of the last decades, especially in western countries, to achieve gender equality, there are still many challenges that need to be faced.
This workshop aims to explain what gender is, by giving a definition and compared to sex, sexual orientation, discussing gender identity and equality. It will be mainly focused on the current issues that women are facing worldwide, from stereotypes and catcalling, to gender pay gap and violence. Data will be presented and participants will be actively involved in the discussion, and in the proposition of potential solutions.
What is Gender? How is it presented in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights? What are the current issues linked to it? And what are some possible solutions? The goal of this workshop is to raise awareness on the topic of gender inequalities in different fields as in different cultures. The workshop will require the audience’s involvement in activities and dynamic discussions.
Freedom of Speech
According to the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, everyone has the right to express their own ideas, opinions and thoughts. But when is the exact moment Free Speech turns into Hate Speech? What is the difference? We are currently living in a digital era that is developing very fast and allowing people to stay in contact with each other, but also to enter in contact with news from around the world, new information and opinions different from one’s own.
How are Freedom of Speech and Hate Speech related to one’s online presence? Does it work the same everywhere around the globe, when it comes to Freedom of Speech? During this workshop these topics will be addressed and explored together with the participants, through questions and games, aimed to encourage a conversation and discuss online Hate Speech.
What is Freedom of Speech? How is it different from Hate Speech? The aim of this Workshop is to spread awareness about the importance of Freedom of Speech and the dangers of Hate Speech. The Workshop will include a few activities involving the participants and witnessing online Hate Speech.
Rule of Law
We live in a society made of states, and each state is governed whether by a body of people in the form of a republic, in all its different forms, or by one person like in absolute monarchy or dictatorship.
In a way, the government, with its decision, controls the state and its inhabitants. But who controls the controller? Here is where the Rule of Law comes into play: supports the equality of all citizens before the law, the ruler(s) included. During the workshop we will discuss the use, and misuse, and the application of this principle. Participants will be involved in some exercises and real-life examples will be discussed.
What is the Rule of Law? How does the UN present it and how will the UN improve it? How far right movements violate it? The purpose of the workshop is to inform the participants on the role of the Rule of Law and the differences of its application around the world. The audience will be involved in discussions and, hopefully, will leave the workshop more curious about the topic.
